Cable car, Montecatini Terme

Cable car in Montecatini Terme, jump into the past to visit the surroundings

Going by our Montecatini Terme cable car is the best way to visit Montecatini Alto, the oldest village near the town, with medieval origins and tradition of elegant tourism. The cable car station is located within walking distance - less than three hundred meters - from our 4-star hotel: take advantage of a day of leisure in a unique landscape, in culture and relaxation. A superb idea to have your children also experience a different culture.

The history of the cable car begins on June 4, 1898, with its inauguration: it was used to connect the "Montecatini Baths" with the "Castle" by means of two steam engine cars mounted on the hillside. For the great event, the first trip, Giuseppe Verdithe composer was also present . It was the era of great development and wealth for the town.

In 1921, the original steam system was replaced with an electrically driven winch, while the rest of the original equipment remains and has received almost exclusively only maintenance adjustments: "Gigio" and "Gigia " (the two vehicles you see on the tracks) are the the oldest cable railway funicular cars currently running in Italy! In the cars will find three compartments with wooden benches and two outdoor balconies to enjoy the beautiful panoramic view.

The cable car runs on the cog and wheel principal, running 1056 m distance, 206.47 m in slope, a little more than 8 minutes trip, with an average speed of 2 m / s. The cable carrunsevery half hour from 9.30 a.m. to 24.00 p.m., with a break between 1.00 p.m. and 2.30 p.m., with a closing period in Fall (just ask at the reception for more detailed information). Tickets for the cable car must be purchased directly at the counter (careful not to lose the ticket, it will be necessary for you to go back!).
